2024 social trends (+ why we've changed our approach)

It’s 2024 and we’re back with another roundup of what is trending on social media this year! In the Crossbeam team, we spend a lot of time on socials for our clients (and for fun), so we wanted to share some of what we expect to see more of this year.

2024 social trends

Voiceover videos

People love people and they want to see and hear from them on social media! Voiceover videos are a popular content form on Instagram on Instagram Reels. They involve recording someone talking through a process or a story and laying it over a series of videos. Like most Reels, they’re most successful when kept short and concise.

We love this example of a voiceover to frame a story out of a few unrelated clips.

Behind the scenes

What’s happening in your world? Show don’t tell with behind-the-scenes content! It was popular in 2023 and it continues to be engaging in 2024. Give your community a peek behind the curtain by sharing photos and videos of things like; student experiences, event organisation, meetings and preparation and more.

See how our client Olive Tree Media gives a glimpse into their filming, connecting with people along the way!

Carousels and photos

Carousels are all about making it easy for people to consume your content. They are a series of photos shared together, in sequence or as a ‘dump’. You’ll either see them as designed graphics or raw images shared to give a full picture or overview of an event or time period. This is a compelling way to communicate detailed information like a story or announcement!

See how we used this to share a funding announcement from our client Anglican Deaconess Ministries.

Organic platform tools

While scheduling content for consistency is still here to stay, organic platform tools are becoming more and more powerful and useful for staying on trend. New features that can only be accessed inside of Facebook or Instagram give so many options for engaging with your audience.

For our clients, we love using Instagram and Facebook Stories, link stickers, event countdowns and reminders, the native Reels editor and Facebook Events.

Why we’ve changed our social media approach

Social media done well isn’t just set and forget! It is ongoing, strategic, flexible, creative and adaptable. This is one of the key reasons we’ve changed our approach to delivering social media this year.

It can be easy to get distracted by all the noise about marketing, and social media is the noisiest place and the most talked about topic. At Crossbeam we prioritise strategic and long-term communications and use a multi-channel approach.

This means we approach social media as one part of an integrated communications and marketing strategy and is one of the reasons we love working on client comms holistically, as it all works together.

We also pride ourselves in seeking excellence for our clients, and this has seen us change our approach to delivering social media this year. We’ve moved away from delivering based on number of posts and to levels of coverage.

So how does it work to do social media with Crossbeam now?

Crossbeam has moved to a tiered set of packages for social media management that offer options for all sizes of ministry organisations. Our new packages are designed around flexibility and responsiveness, so we can tailor your content to appropriate trends and seasons in your business. Packages are tiered based on the volume of posts, but also the type of content - so the higher the package, the more diverse your types of content!
